Scope of the Provincial Land Commissioner Department Sabaragamuwa

According to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka and as per the powers vested on provincial Councils, the Land Department of Sabaragamuwa Province was established. The management and administration of all the state land within the Sabaragamuwa province carried out by the Land department and proper coordination with provincial level to national level also implement by the department.

In compliance with the Acts and Ordinances such as Land Development Ordinance, State Land Ordinance, Land Grant Special Provisions Act etc. and timely circulars issued by the relevant authorities, the land department of Sabaragamuwa functioning its duties throughout the province that includes two districts- Ratnapura and Kegalle. These two districts consist with 29 Divisional Secretariats where the Divisional Secretaries handling land duties in accordance with the land powers vested to them.

Other than the Land Commissioners’ head office situated in New Town, Ratnapura there is a sub office in Kegalle. Colonial Officers, Land Officers and development Officers (tax) been deployed to the each Divisional Secretariats in order to carry out the land duties. The main functions and the services of the department varied from identifying the state lands, disposing them to suitable purposes, collecting tax, conservation of state lands etc. to post monitoring activities of disposed state lands.
