Historical and present review of farm

The farm was belongs to Janatha Estate Development Board (JEDB) and later it was leased to Richard Peris Group of Company.  It was named as Sooriyapura Division on Ethalla Estate. This land was suggested to locate Wagolla farm which was overtaken by the Pinnawala Zoo. After long years of judicial proceedings this land was handed over to the office of the Provincial Director of Agriculture, Sabaragamuwa Province on 2020.10.20 Marukwathura farm was started on 2020.10.20. We plant 120 of mother plants for the fruit crops as a new beginning. In late 2021 compost production was started in the farm and 46 of Rambutan mother plants were established in the farm As the progress in year 2021. At the present Sabaragamuwa Provincial Agriculture Department is developing the infrastructure facilities in the farm. Marukwathura Farm is located in Kegalle district, Rambukkana DS Division. It is 33 Ac 3 rudes and 6 Perches area covered with uneven coconut cultivation. Agro ecological region is WL, More than 75 inches of rainfall is expected on this area. In here Red Yellow podzolic and Red yellow podzolic with strongly mottled sub soil and low humic gley soils can be seen. Most areas of the farm are covered by soils with quartz. Main crop of the farm is coconut. 33Ac land is covered with different aged coconut plants. After taking over from the previous owners at present farm is maintaining mother plants gardens to secure good quality planting materials for the district farm needs. Coconut harvesting is done in 45 days interval. Compost Production was started in late 2021 and now it is expanded to produce wormy compost also.
