Historical and present review of farm

This institution in Karapincha has been established in 1958 with combination of two sections the practical farm school and the farm which was monitored by the seeds and planting material production unit. Monitoring of this practical farm school is being done by the Extension and Training Division of the Department of Agriculture. With the monitoring of Department of Agriculture, one year training course has been carried out since 1958. This practical farm school was changed in to a District Agriculture Training Center with the changes of government policies, the institution is recommended only to continue as a training facility and the farm was attached to produce seeds and planting material which are useful in production procedure under the seed and planting material production division of the department of agriculture. With the establishment of provincial council in 1989, this institution and the farm were taken into  the governance of Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, and with the decisions taken by  the government the institute was taken in to the governance of central government again, as it was suggested to declare the School of Agriculture Karapincha here in 1994. According to that the following resources such as the Hostel with 50 residential facilities, Lecture halls, Horticulture unit, Paddy cultivation unit, Agro forestry unit, Animal husbandry unit, and the unit of soil conservation had been hand overed to the school of agriculture which was previously owned by the district agriculture training center. But in the same year with the enthusiasm of Provincial Department of Agriculture, the remained resources were used  for the only purpose of enhancing the farmers practical knowledge on up to date new agricultural technology and therefore Rathnapura District Agriculture Training Center  has established in present location. Though the institution was started with lack of resources, in present it has become the pioneer center for having practical training programs. At present, this institution is established over 22 Acre which provides different types of training programs for the farmers in the area, Agriculture entrepreneurs as well as for the school students in term of developing knowledge, skills and attitudes. Not only that, different trainees who engaged with different Degree Programs, Diploma Courses and Certificate Level Courses are awarded with necessary training programs.
